Category 5e (or Cat5e) is the standard copper cable used for data networks. It can carry signals at data rates of up to 1 gigabit per second, and is therefore ideal for modern computer network installations. In a typical installation, the Cat5e wiring is bought back to a central cabinet, where each circuit is presented on a patch panel.
Flood wiring
In a structured wiring installation, the site is "flood wired". This means that each room, or area, is provided with many data ports, usually around 50% more than are actually needed. This allows for future expansion and flexibility. It also gives the ability to use the data cabling for the telephone system, reducing installation costs and increasing flexibility.
Dado Trunking
Dado trunking is a special trunking system that has been developed to provide a practical solution for the supply of power, data and telephone cabling in new and refurbished buildings. Dado trunking has three separate compartments each with its own cover allowing access to one service without disturbing the other two. The centre compartment is normally used for power circuit wiring with the two outer compartments being used for extra low voltage circuits such as telephone and data wiring.
Installation
Westbrook Communications has installed thousands of Cat5e outlets, ranging from adding points to an existing system, to designing new installations from scratch. We will work with you to design a solution that meets your needs both now and in the future. Our initial site survey and quotation are free of charge.
Testing
All our Cat5e installations are fully tested using a Fluke Networks DSP4300 network tester. The test results are presented to the client on CD-ROM, with a printed summary sheet. For more information on our cable testing services, please click here.
